Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions we hear most often. If you can't find what you're looking for, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Getting Started
What areas do you cover?
We're based in Nottinghamshire and primarily serve the surrounding areas including Mansfield, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Hucknall, Newark and surrounding villages. For residential training and home boarding, dogs travel to us. For 1-1 sessions, please get in touch to discuss whether we're able to travel to your location.
How do I know which service is right for my dog?
That's exactly the kind of question we love to help with. Every dog and owner situation is different, and the best option depends on your dog's needs, your schedule, your goals and your budget. The easiest way to work it out is to get in touch — we'll ask a few questions and help point you in the right direction. There's no pressure to book anything on the spot.
How do I book?
Simply fill in our contact form or reach out via WhatsApp, Facebook or Instagram. We'll come back to you to have an initial chat, find out about you and your dog, and then discuss the best way forward. We don't take bookings without speaking to you first — we want to make sure we're the right fit.
Training
What age should training start?
The sooner, the better — but it's genuinely never too late. Puppies can begin learning from the day they arrive home, and older dogs are absolutely capable of learning new things at any age. If you have a puppy, early socialisation and basic manners are the priority. If you have an older dog with established habits, we'll approach things at the right pace for them.
Do you work with reactive dogs?
Yes. Reactivity is one of the most common reasons owners come to us, and it's one of the areas we have the most experience in. Whether your dog reacts to other dogs, people, bikes or traffic, we'll work with you to understand the root cause and put a plan together. Reactivity takes time and consistency to work through — we'll be honest with you about that from the start.
Do you use rewards in training?
Absolutely. Rewards are a central part of our approach because they're effective and they help build a positive association with training. This might mean food, toys, praise or access to something your dog really values — it depends on the individual dog. We use your dog's natural motivations to make training feel worthwhile for them.
What training methods do you use?
We use a balanced, evidence-informed approach that prioritises positive reinforcement alongside clear, fair boundaries. We don't rely on fear, pain or harsh corrections — but we also don't believe in ignoring problematic behaviour. We focus on clear communication, building trust and giving dogs the structure they need to feel safe and settled.
How long will it take to see progress?
Honestly, it depends on the dog, the behaviour we're working on and how consistently the training is practised at home. Some dogs show noticeable improvement after just one or two sessions. Others, particularly those working through fear-based behaviour or long-established habits, take longer. We'll always give you realistic expectations from the start — because realistic expectations lead to real progress.
Will my dog be trained after one session?
Dog training is a process, not a one-time fix. A single session can make a meaningful difference and give you practical things to work on straight away — but lasting change comes from consistent practice over time. Think of a session like a really good lesson: it gives you the knowledge, but the skill comes from putting it into practice. We're here for the whole journey, not just the first session.
What should I bring to a training session?
High-value treats your dog really enjoys (the smellier, the better in most cases), a well-fitting flat collar or harness, a lead, any equipment you usually use with your dog and a few minutes before the session to let your dog have a toilet break and settle. We'll handle the rest.
Residential Training
How does residential training work?
Your dog comes to stay with us and lives as part of our household for the duration of the programme. They receive structured, consistent training sessions throughout the day, built into a proper daily routine. It's not intensive back-to-back training — it's training integrated into everyday life, which is where dogs learn best. At the end of the stay, we have a thorough handover session with you to make sure you're confident and prepared to continue the progress at home.
How often will I receive updates during residential training?
We believe in keeping owners fully in the loop. You'll receive regular video and written updates throughout your dog's stay so you can see what they've been working on and how they're settling. We're also always available to answer questions — we want you to feel confident, not anxious, while your dog is with us.
Home Boarding
Can my dog stay for boarding if they haven't trained with you before?
Yes — you don't need to have trained with us for boarding. However, all dogs must complete an assessment before staying with us. This gives us the chance to meet your dog, understand their needs and make sure they'll be comfortable and well-matched to our home environment.
Can intact males and females stay for boarding?
Please mention this when you get in touch. Whether we can accommodate intact dogs depends on the other guests staying at the time. We'll always be transparent about this and work with you to find the right solution.
What vaccinations do you require?
We require dogs to be up to date with their core vaccinations — distemper, hepatitis and parvovirus — as well as kennel cough. We ask for proof of vaccination before boarding. If your dog is on a titre testing protocol, please let us know when you enquire.
Do you accept titre testing?
We consider titre testing on a case-by-case basis. Please get in touch to discuss this and we'll work through it together.
Credentials
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We hold a valid local authority licence for home boarding and we're comprehensively insured for both training and boarding. Our licence is renewed regularly and we take our responsibilities as a licensed establishment seriously.
Still Have Questions?
We're always happy to have a conversation. Get in touch and we'll do our best to help — even if it's just a quick question before you decide whether to book.
